Lviv to Launch State-of-the-Art Rehabilitation Center at University Hospital

У Львові відкриють сучасний реабілітаційний центр при університетській лікарні.

Introducing a Cutting-Edge Rehabilitation Facility in Lviv

A new project is underway in Lviv to establish a modern rehabilitation center within the University Hospital of the King Danylo National Medical University. Designed to serve up to 50 patients simultaneously, this center will offer comprehensive recovery services for individuals recovering from injuries, wounds, and strokes. The Ukrainian Ministry of Health has officially announced the commencement of this initiative.

This development stems from a partnership formed between Lviv Medical University and the Czech company MND during the Ukraine Recovery Conference (URC 2026). The agreement includes funding commitments for constructing and equipping the rehabilitation department at the University Hospital, with the total project budget set at 230 million hryvnias.

Facility Design and Patient Care Approach

The rehabilitation center will be created by renovating the existing single-story ophthalmology department building and adding two additional floors. The ground level will house treatment and rehabilitation spaces, while the upper floors will provide patient rooms, relaxation areas, and technical support facilities.

The center aims to deliver a full-spectrum care pathway encompassing:

  • medical treatment
  • rehabilitation therapies
  • prosthetics services
  • ongoing recovery support

This project is part of a broader national effort to expand rehabilitation services across Ukraine. As of September 2026, 587 healthcare institutions hold contracts with the National Health Service of Ukraine (NHSU) to provide rehabilitation care, collectively offering approximately 17,000 therapeutic sessions daily. The new center in Lviv will be a vital addition to this growing network, focusing on patients requiring intensive recovery after serious injuries and illnesses.

Establishing this advanced rehabilitation facility aligns with Ukraine’s nationwide strategy to enhance healthcare quality, particularly in post-injury and post-illness recovery. Given the rising demand for rehabilitation services, the center is expected to improve both accessibility and the standard of care in the region. This initiative marks a significant advancement in the country’s medical infrastructure, supporting patients on their journey to full recovery.

In addition to the upcoming rehabilitation center, Lviv is also enhancing its healthcare infrastructure with the recent opening of an upgraded anesthesiology and intensive care unit. This facility features 27 ICU beds, significantly improving the city's capacity to provide critical care.
