Suspect Arrested in Decade-Old Mayor's Murder
A suspect has been detained in Lviv for the murder of Kiril Kostenko, the mayor of the Crimean town of Simeiz, in February 2013. Kostenko was killed instantly in a targeted shooting of his vehicle near the Simeiz village council administration building. This high-profile assassination occurred before Russia's illegal annexation of Crimea the following year, a period marked by political tensions and criminal violence.
Following the crime, the suspect attempted to destroy evidence. Law enforcement discovered a burned-out vehicle containing the weapon used in the shooting.
