On the night of September 8, 2025, residents of Ukraine and most of the Earth's inhabitants will be able to observe a rare astronomical event – a total lunar eclipse. This is the Blood Moon, which will take on a crimson hue. According to the publication Universemagazine, this year the eclipse coincides with the September full moon, known as the Corn Moon, and about 7.1 billion people, or 88% of the planet's population, will be able to see it.
The reddish color of the Moon during the eclipse is due to the way light passes through the Earth's atmosphere. Red-orange rays wrap around the planet, reach the Moon, and color it dark crimson, allowing it to remain visible even in complete darkness.
Ukrainians will be able to observe the first phases of the eclipse before sunset. In Luhansk, the Moon will rise at 18:48, in Kyiv at 19:25, and in Lviv at 19:51. The total phase will begin at 20:30 and last until 21:52, with the maximum occurring at 21:11. The eclipse can be observed until 23:55 when the penumbral phase ends, and all that is needed is an open view to the eastern and southeast horizon.
Summary: On September 8, 2025, residents of Ukraine and many other countries will have the opportunity to witness a rare astronomical phenomenon – a total lunar eclipse that will take on a crimson hue. The reddish color of the Moon during the eclipse occurs due to the way light passes through the Earth's atmosphere, adding a mysterious beauty to this nighttime adventure.
