Partial Demolition Ahead for Luwr Business Center
The owner of the Luwr business center in the Lukyanivka district, Nazar Bench, has announced plans to partially dismantle the building after it was hit by a Russian missile strike. The demolition will focus on the far left section of the structure, where several floors sustained heavy damage. Following the removal of debris, the company intends to reinforce and restore the load-bearing elements.
A certified expert, who previously worked on the building after earlier attacks, has been brought in to assess the damage. Dismantling and restoration work are set to begin once missile fragments are cleared and a full structural inspection is completed. Due to severe damage to the facade and framework, specialized heavy equipment will be required for the task.
Economic Fallout and Legal Action
The Luwr business center, covering 28,000 square meters, opened shortly before Russia’s full-scale invasion began on February 24, 2022. Before the war, about 60% of its space was leased, but operations have effectively ground to a halt following the Russian strikes. The company is pursuing a lawsuit against Russia to recover losses and lost income, with the first claim exceeding $8.7 million. Owners are also preparing a submission to the international Register of Damages caused by Russian aggression against Ukraine.
- A massive attack on Kyiv on May 24 left 87 people injured, including three minors.
- The same strike damaged a residence housing Albania’s ambassador to Ukraine.
- This event was part of a broader pattern of Russian strikes targeting Ukraine’s defense-industrial enterprises in Kyiv.
Rebuilding the Luwr business center marks a critical step in restoring Kyiv’s infrastructure after repeated attacks that have caused extensive harm to the city. Beyond physical destruction, such incidents carry severe economic repercussions, as businesses shut down, jobs are lost, and tax revenues decline. The ongoing legal battles against Russia underscore the need for international accountability and recognition of aggression, which could shape Ukraine’s future ties with other nations.
The ongoing conflict has not only impacted infrastructure like the Luwr business center but has also prompted significant responses from the business community in Russia. As the situation escalates, Russian business leaders are urging for military support to counter the increasing threats posed by drone attacks, highlighting the broader implications of the war on both sides of the conflict.
