Ancient Circle Unearthed at Machrie Moor Bog
Using modern geophysical equipment, experts from Historic Environment Scotland have identified a ring of 12 pit anomalies hidden beneath a peat bog at Machrie Moor in Scotland. The circle spans roughly 28 meters in diameter, with gaps of about 6.5 meters between each anomaly. During the survey, two unusually wide spaces were also noted among the features.
Researchers speculate that the monument may have originally contained 14 elements, though no evidence of stones has been found in the depressions. It is believed the circle could have been constructed from wooden posts, or that stone blocks were removed at a later time. The landscape of Machrie Moor dates back to between 3500 and 1500 BCE, underscoring its historical significance.
