Introducing the "Psychological Preparation for Combat Situations" Course
The Army+ app has launched a new training program designed to equip military personnel with the skills to recognize and manage intense stress responses in combat. This innovative course combines augmented and virtual reality exercises to simulate battlefield conditions, helping soldiers build resilience and provide peer support. Developed collaboratively by the Main Directorate of Psychological Support of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, the Better Regulation Delivery Office (BRDO), and Germany’s Ministry of Defense, the program reflects a comprehensive approach to psychological readiness.
Course Breakdown
The curriculum is organized into 5 modules with a total of 12 lessons covering critical topics such as:
- Shock responses
- Panic control
- Managing aggression
- Breathing techniques
- Building psychological resilience
- Preparation for artillery bombardment
- Countering drone attacks
- Defenses against armored vehicles
- Handling the risk of capture
Through this training, soldiers learn to identify acute stress reactions, regain emotional control, offer immediate psychological aid to comrades, and apply self-regulation strategies to maintain mental stability during high-pressure scenarios.
This course is part of the "Training" section within Army+, which hosts over 30 courses spanning various military disciplines. The Training feature is developed and maintained by the Armed Forces’ Center for Scaling Technological Solutions. Other available topics include tactical medicine, military leadership, cyber hygiene, UAV operations, and electronic warfare. Notably, more than 500,000 service members have registered military documents within Army+, underscoring the app’s role as a vital tool for enhancing both professional skills and psychological preparedness.
Launching this psychological training marks a significant advancement in supporting the mental health of soldiers, especially amid modern conflicts. Leveraging cutting-edge technologies like AR and VR enables the creation of immersive, effective training environments that strengthen troops' readiness to face stressful combat conditions. This initiative highlights the critical importance of integrating psychological resilience into overall military training programs.
In addition to the new stress management training, the Army+ app also offers a comprehensive course on UAV operation management, which further enhances the operational capabilities of military personnel. This integration of various training modules underscores the commitment to improving combat readiness through innovative educational tools.
