Intentional memorization overcomes emotions: what really shapes memory

Запам’ятовування зосереджується на фактах: як наші переживання впливають на сприйняття інформації.

Scientists from Merrimack College (USA) led by Dr. Laura Kurdziel studied the impact of emotional response and conscious intention on memory. The results of this experiment were published in the journal Frontiers in Behavioral Neuroscience. Through an experiment where participants were shown words and asked to remember some of them, the researchers found that the conscious decision to remember or forget has a greater impact on memory than the emotional coloring of the information.

The scientists emphasize that conscious attention and motivation are crucial for memory formation. Emotions can enhance the memorization effect but do not replace it. Specifically, instructions like 'remember this' help the brain highlight important information for retention and support positive outcomes.

This research is important for a better understanding of how our brain works and how we can more effectively store information. Such discoveries may have practical applications in learning, memory, and psychology in general.
