Regional Council of the Coordination Center convenes for fifth session

Ukraine recently held the fifth meeting of the Regional Council under the Coordination Center for the Development of Family-Based Care and Child Welfare. Government officials, international NGOs, and charitable organizations participated in the event. A central topic was the monitoring data on implementing the Strategy to Ensure Every Child’s Right to Grow Up in a Family Environment.

Discussions focused on expanding family-based care models and the foster care service. Separate attention was given to supporting families raising orphans and children deprived of parental care. Another critical point involved assistance for children and young people returning from deportation or forced displacement.

“Child policy is the top priority for every one of us. I sincerely thank the representatives of regional military administrations for joining us today. Each of you handles many issues beyond child policy. That is undoubtedly challenging, but these meetings help us move in the same direction, analyze challenges, and share experiences and practices that have already proven effective at the local level.”

Communities also presented their experiences with implementing the 'Family Home' service. This initiative aims to create a comfortable family environment for children in need of support. The Regional Council meeting marked an important step forward in developing Ukraine’s child care and support system, which remains a state priority.

The power of collective action

The Regional Council session underscores the importance of joint efforts in protecting children’s rights, especially amid the disruptions caused by war and social instability. Advancing family-based care models and supporting families that raise children without parental oversight are critical to improving children’s quality of life. The success of such initiatives can yield long-term positive effects on society by helping children integrate into family settings and achieve better social outcomes.
