Ukraine and European Bank Forge New Partnership for Recovery
Ukraine's Finance Minister, Sergii Marchenko, and Carlo Monticelli, President of the Council of Europe Development Bank (CEB), met in Paris to discuss new initiatives to assist Ukrainians affected by Russia's full-scale war. The meeting highlighted the successful implementation of previous agreements signed last year, totaling 350 million euros. This international financial support is crucial as Ukraine continues to address the vast humanitarian and reconstruction challenges caused by the ongoing conflict.
These funds have been allocated to provide housing and support for internally displaced persons (IDPs). The CEB's current project portfolio in Ukraine consists of four active initiatives with a total value of 550 million euros, of which 458 million euros have already been disbursed. Key areas under consideration for new collaborative efforts include:
- A project to support micro-enterprises;
- A program to compensate IDPs from temporarily occupied territories for lost housing;
- Preferential mortgage lending for veterans to purchase homes;
- Additional funding for programs supporting internally displaced persons.
These measures aim to improve living conditions for those impacted by the war and demonstrate the continued partnership between Ukraine and international financial institutions.
The Critical Role of International Support
Cooperation with the CEB represents a vital component of the international support for Ukraine as it contends with the protracted war and its severe societal consequences. Given the scale of the humanitarian crisis, these new initiatives could significantly enhance housing conditions and economic stability for vulnerable segments of the population. This ongoing collaboration underscores the importance of sustained international assistance for Ukraine's recovery and future socio-economic development.
