Attacks on Targets Inside Russia and Occupied Territories
Ukraine’s defense forces have released a list of assets hit on June 2 and during the night of June 3 within Russia and occupied regions. The targeted sites included:
- an oil terminal in St. Petersburg
- military vessels stationed in Kronstadt
- the Progress plant in the Tambov region
- the Saki airfield in Crimea
According to reports, a fire broke out at the St. Petersburg oil terminal following the strike. This facility has an annual throughput capacity of up to 10 million tons and contains 21 storage tanks. At least four major fire hotspots were observed as a result of the attack. In Kronstadt, Ukrainian drones targeted a berthing area for Baltic Fleet ships, including the corvette Boikiy—a vessel that in 2025 escorted shadow fleet tankers through the English Channel. Launched in 2011 and commissioned in 2013, the corvette was hit by operators from the 1st Special Center of the Unmanned Systems Forces.
Another target was the Progress plant in Michurinsk, Tambov region. This enterprise manufactures components for Russia’s aviation and missile guidance systems. A fire also ignited at the facility after the strike. Drones disabled a short-range radio navigation system at the Saki airfield in occupied Crimea. Ukraine’s defense forces confirmed damage to a primary oil processing unit and two storage tanks at the Ilsky refinery in Krasnodar Krai, as well as a halt in oil pumping at the Zenzelvatka station in Volgograd region.
The operation’s results were announced by the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU), and the commander of the Unmanned Systems Forces, Robert Brovdi (also known as Madyar). Notably, these strikes occurred on the opening day of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.
“The longer Russia chooses war over peace, the more frequently the facilities that sustain it will burn,” the SBU stated.Denys Shtilerman commented on the situation, adding:
“I hope all guests of SPIEF-2026 will breathe deeply and enjoy the views.”
Targets included: the St. Petersburg oil terminal, military ships in Kronstadt (the corvette Boikiy), the Progress plant in the Tambov region, and the Saki airfield in Crimea. Information sources: the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the Security Service of Ukraine, and the commander of the Unmanned Systems Forces, Robert Brovdi (Madyar). Previously confirmed strikes: the Ilsky refinery (Krasnodar Krai) and the Zenzelvatka station (Volgograd region).
Context of the Attacks
These attacks unfolded amid the escalating conflict between Ukraine and Russia, highlighting Ukraine’s strategic objective to degrade the enemy’s military and economic resources. Strikes on critical infrastructure that supports Russia’s war effort could impair the country’s ability to sustain its armed forces, especially during active combat operations. At the same time, such actions risk intensifying the conflict and prompting retaliatory measures from Russia. The situation remains tense, and its further evolution warrants close monitoring.
The recent strikes by Ukrainian forces have not only targeted key military assets but also extended to critical infrastructure deep within Russia. For a comprehensive overview of the operations that affected an oil refinery and a pumping station, you can read more about these developments here.
