Diplomatic Breakfast in Spain

Julia Sokolovska, Ukraine’s ambassador to Spain, participated in a diplomatic breakfast hosted by The Diplomat in Spain, focusing on collaboration among Ibero-American nations. During the event, Sokolovska expressed gratitude to Pedro Rollán, President of the Spanish Senate, for inviting Ukraine to join the Ibero-American Parliamentary Forum and for fostering cooperation with Latin America and the Caribbean.

The discussion also addressed the impact of recent large-scale Russian attacks on Ukraine, particularly targeting its energy infrastructure. Ambassador Sokolovska stressed the urgent need to strengthen both political and sanctions pressure on Russia. She stated:

'Allies must continue supporting Ukraine by intensifying political and sanctions measures against Russia and providing the necessary resources to protect civilians and critical infrastructure.' Julia Sokolovska

Preparations for the Ibero-American Summit

The meeting further included talks about the upcoming 30th Ibero-American Summit of Heads of State and Government, scheduled for November 4-5 in Madrid. Pedro Rollán highlighted the importance of working with trusted partners amid current geopolitical challenges, emphasizing the need to uphold an international order based on the rule of law rather than the 'law of the strongest.'

Ukraine's embassy continues to strengthen ties with Latin American and Caribbean nations, underscoring the significance of global cooperation in today’s interconnected world. This gathering provided another valuable platform to exchange views on pressing issues and explore solutions within the realm of international politics.

Ukraine's entry into the Ibero-American Parliamentary Forum reflects its determination to broaden diplomatic relations and secure support from Latin American countries in countering Russian aggression. The focus on enhancing political and sanctions pressure against Russia aligns with a global trend of backing Ukraine amid ongoing conflict. The preparations for the Madrid summit reaffirm the critical role of international collaboration in tackling global challenges, especially concerning security and human rights.

As Ukraine continues to forge stronger diplomatic ties, the recent presentation at the POLITICO Madrid Playbook serves as a testament to Ambassador Sokolovska's engagement with key international stakeholders. This event not only highlights Ukraine's proactive approach in the face of geopolitical challenges but also underlines the importance of collaboration with allies in addressing pressing global issues.
