Ukraine Strikes Three Oil Refineries and Shadow Fleet Tankers in Russia

Українські сили здійснили удари по нафтопереробним заводам та танкерам у Росії.

Attacks on Russian Military Targets

On the night of July 8, Ukrainian defense forces launched strikes against military and logistics sites within the Russian Federation. Key targets included:

  • The Saratov Oil Refinery
  • The TAIF-NK refinery complex in Nizhnekamsk
  • The Taneco refinery
  • Six vessels belonging to Russia's shadow fleet
  • The Borisoglebsk military airbase
  • Road bridges in the Belgorod region

The previous day, on July 7, Ukrainian forces also hit bridges near the settlements of Urazovo and Shelayevo.

Aftermath of the Strikes

During the assault on the Saratov Oil Refinery—part of the Rosneft network with an annual processing capacity of roughly 7 million tons of crude—explosions were heard and a fire broke out. This facility produces gasoline, diesel fuel, and aviation kerosene. The TAIF-NK refinery in Nizhnekamsk was also struck, resulting in reported blasts and flames. TAIF-NK processes over 8 million tons of feedstock each year, turning out diesel, gasoline, jet fuel, and other petroleum products.

Ukraine's Special Operations Forces confirmed hits on two plants in Nizhnekamsk: Taneco and TAIF-NK.

“Taneco is one of Russia's largest and most advanced refineries, achieving a refining depth of up to 99%,” noted SOF representatives.

In addition, Ukrainian troops targeted six shadow fleet tankers—one located in the Black Sea and five in the Sea of Azov. These ships had been used to support the logistics of occupation forces in southern Ukraine. The Borisoglebsk military airfield in the Voronezh region was also hit.

On the same day, July 7, Ukrainian forces focused on road bridges near Urazovo and Shelayevo in the Belgorod region. These crossings had been utilized by the Russian army to move personnel, weapons, ammunition, and supplies.

Over the past week, units from the SBU's Center for Special Operations 'A' carried out a series of strikes on key Russian military assets in temporarily occupied Ukrainian territories. These actions demonstrate the ongoing active operations by Ukrainian forces in response to Russian aggression.

The executed strikes highlight Ukraine's concentrated effort to destroy critical resources that sustain Russia's military logistics. Hitting oil refineries, tankers, and airbases could significantly degrade the occupying forces' ability to conduct operations in southern Ukraine. These moves also underscore the conflict's active phase, reflecting Ukraine's strategy in countering Russian military aggression.

In light of these recent strikes, it is important to consider the broader implications for Ukraine's military strategy. Similar attacks on key infrastructure, such as refineries and bridges in Moscow and Crimea, highlight the ongoing efforts to disrupt Russian logistics and supply lines. These coordinated actions not only demonstrate Ukraine's tactical capabilities but also signal a shift in the dynamics of the conflict.
