Ukraine’s FP-7 Ballistic Missile Undergoes Testing
Iryna Terekh, Technical Director at Fire Point, released footage of trials for Ukraine’s FP-7 ballistic missile, which will serve as the foundation for the Freyja anti-ballistic interceptor. The video, shared on social media platform X, highlights key stages of the missile’s evaluation.
Terekh described the test as a major milestone, demonstrating a fully guided, maneuverable flight of the FP-7. She stated:
'No matter how unrealistic or ambitious this goal may sound today, we are exhausting every possible and impossible effort to make it a reality as soon as possible, so that Ukraine can secure its skies independently.' Iryna Terekh
FP-7 Missile Specs and the Freyja Air Defense System
The FP-7 missile boasts a range of up to 200 km, a 150 kg warhead, and a top speed of 1,500 meters per second. Its aerodynamic design mirrors that of the Soviet 48N6 missiles used in Russia’s S-400 systems. However, the Ukrainian variant differs in its guidance system and flight control equipment.
Fire Point has also unveiled the concept for a new air defense system named Freyja, specifically designed to intercept ballistic missiles. The test launch of the FP-7 ballistic missile occurred on June 3, 2026. These trials represent a significant step forward in advancing Ukraine’s air defense capabilities.
Developing indigenous air defense technologies is crucial for Ukraine amid modern military threats. The FP-7 missile test and the Freyja system concept underscore the country’s drive to create independent means of protecting its airspace.
