Overnight Strikes Hit Russian Oil Refinery in Kstovo and Chemical Plant Nevinnomyssky Azot

Ukraine’s Defense Forces Conduct Operations on May 19-20, 2026

Between the night of May 19 and the early hours of May 20, 2026, Ukrainian defense forces executed a series of strikes against key Russian infrastructure. The attacks targeted the AVT-6 primary oil refining unit at the Nizhny Novgorodnefteorgsintez refinery in Kstovo, as well as the Yaroslavl-3 oil pumping station located in Semibratovo. Additional strikes hit command centers and concentrations of enemy personnel across several regions.

The destruction of the AVT-6 unit triggered a fire in the Nizhny Novgorod region. At the Yaroslavl-3 station in Yaroslavl Oblast, preliminary reports confirm damage to four storage tanks with a combined capacity of 140,000 cubic meters. Ukrainian forces also attacked enemy command posts in Soledar (Donetsk region) and observation command points near Lyubimovka in Kherson Oblast and Ivanivske in Donetsk region.

Further Strikes and Consequences

Additional operations targeted drone control centers near Piddubne, Perebudova, Huliaipole, and Yelizavetivka. Overall, the attacks hit concentrations of enemy troops in Novoukrainka, Myrne, Snizhne, and Donetsk. A Russian ammunition depot near Marynivka in Zaporizhzhia Oblast and a repair unit in Sievierodonetsk, Luhansk region, were also struck.

During the night of May 19, drones attacked the Yaroslavl region, while a series of explosions occurred in Stavropol Krai on May 20. The Nevinnomyssky Azot plant in Nevinnomyssk was hit, likely causing a fire. A Ukrainian General Staff representative stated,

“The station is a critical component of Russia’s oil transportation system and supports the aggressor state’s military-industrial infrastructure.”

Meanwhile, the Moscow Oil Refinery temporarily halted operations following a drone attack on May 17. According to Reuters, no critical equipment damage occurred there, and the shutdown is a precautionary measure to reduce risks. Full production at the Moscow refinery is expected to resume within a few days.

These strikes by Ukraine’s Defense Forces mark an escalation in military responses to Russian aggression. By deliberately targeting critical oil infrastructure and command centers, Ukraine aims to degrade the enemy’s combat capabilities. The attacks on fuel facilities and troop concentrations could significantly alter the dynamics of the conflict in the region.

As the situation escalates, similar operations have been reported, including a recent strike on an oil refinery in Yaroslavl, which highlights the ongoing pattern of Ukrainian forces targeting critical infrastructure. These coordinated attacks are part of a broader strategy to disrupt the logistics and capabilities of the Russian military.
