Ukraine sets a record for strikes on Russian energy: 24 attacks in a month

В Україні зафіксовано безпрецедентну активність: 24 удари по енергетичним об'єктам противника за один місяць.

Attacks on Russia's energy infrastructure

In December 2023, Ukraine intensified strikes on the energy infrastructure of the Russian Federation, setting a record for the number of attacks since the start of the war. At least 24 strikes were recorded on Russian oil refineries and maritime facilities, indicating an increase in the activity of Ukrainian forces in this direction.

The attacks targeted oil and gas fields of 'Lukoil' in the Caspian Sea, as well as the ports of Taman and Rostov in the Black Sea. As a result of these attacks, several tankers caught fire, confirming the seriousness of the situation. One significant moment was the successful strike of Storm Shadow cruise missiles on the Novoshakhtinsk oil products plant in the Rostov region of Russia.

Economic consequences of the attacks

Additionally, the Ukrainian defense forces struck facilities in the Ryazan region and in the temporarily occupied Luhansk region. At the same time, a reduction in revenue from oil and gas to 23% of Russia's budget is forecasted for the next year, which could have significant consequences for the country's economy. These actions by Ukraine undoubtedly affect Russia's energy security and the overall course of the conflict.

The increase in the intensity of attacks from Ukraine may indicate a strategic course towards diminishing Russia's energy stability, which is an important element in the context of the war. Successful strikes on key facilities of energy infrastructure can significantly impact Russia's economic indicators, particularly its budget, which in wartime conditions can lead to additional challenges for the aggressor country.
