Ukrainian Ski Jumpers Achieve Olympic Qualification for 2026

Ukrainian ski jumpers have secured two quota places for the 2026 Winter Olympics. The qualification process concluded with a World Cup stage in Sapporo, Japan, where the athletes posted their final results. This achievement is particularly notable for a nation better known for its summer sports, highlighting its growing presence in winter disciplines.

Yevhen Marusiak earned one quota by ranking 52nd with 167 points. The second spot was secured by Vitalii Kalinichenko, who held the highest ranking among athletes from four nations in the men's team event. Consequently, the Ukrainian team will compete in the debut Super team event at the 2026 Games.

World Cup Performance and a Skeleton Berth

At the World Cup in Zakopane, the Ukrainian duo of Marusiak and Kalinichenko placed 7th among 14 teams. Separately, Ukraine also secured one quota place in skeleton for the 2026 Winter Olympics. Vladyslav Heraskevych earned it by finishing 11th in the IBSF rankings, while Yaroslav Lavreniuk did not qualify due to insufficient results. Vladyslav Heraskevych is now set to compete in his third Olympic Games, adding veteran experience to the team.

Securing these Olympic berths marks a significant milestone for Ukrainian winter sports. The new Super team event offers a fresh competitive opportunity that could boost domestic interest in ski jumping. Vladyslav Heraskevych's continued success in skeleton further demonstrates the rising competitiveness of Ukrainian athletes on the global stage, contributing positively to the development of winter sports in the country.
