The State Service of Ukraine on Food Safety and Consumer Protection has explained how to properly prepare your pets for a trip abroad.
One of the main steps is obtaining the results of a laboratory test of the blood serum for the presence of antibodies to the rabies virus. This process usually takes a lot of time, so it is important to start preparing in advance.
According to Deputy Head of the State Consumer Service, Chief State Veterinary Inspector Volodymyr Kusturov: 'If you miss the revaccination deadline by even one day, you will have to take blood for antibody titer testing again one month after the rabies vaccination and wait 3 months before traveling.'
In addition, make sure that your pet's veterinary passport contains information about vaccinations and rabies microchipping. It is also necessary to regularly support your pet's immunity by vaccinating them and ensuring that the antibody titer is within the normal range.
Preparing pets for travel abroad requires certain mandatory steps, such as laboratory tests, vaccinations, and immunity support. Following the recommendations of veterinary specialists will help avoid troubles when visiting another country.
