Ukrainian Swimmer Earns $200,000 at First-Ever Competition Where Doping Is Allowed

Українська плавчиня здобула неймовірний приз на історичних змаганнях з дозволеним допінгом.

Enhanced Games Held in Las Vegas

The inaugural Enhanced Games, a sporting event where performance-enhancing drugs are officially permitted, took place in Las Vegas, USA. At this groundbreaking competition, Ukrainian swimmer Andriy Govorov delivered standout performances, claiming third place in the 50-meter freestyle and second place in the 50-meter butterfly. His total prize money amounted to $200,000, comprising $75,000 for the freestyle bronze and $125,000 for the butterfly silver.

World Record Broken and Positive Doping Test

A new world record was set during the Enhanced Games in the men’s 50-meter freestyle. Greek swimster Kristian Golomeev clocked in at 20.81 seconds, surpassing the previous record of 20.88 seconds held by Australia’s Cameron McEvoy. Golomeev earned $250,000 for first place plus a $1 million bonus for breaking the world record.

The event also revealed a positive doping test for Belarusian weightlifter Yevgeny Tikhonstsov, who had a banned growth hormone detected in his system. Tikhonstsov, a bronze medalist at the 2024 Olympics competing as a neutral athlete, has the right to request analysis of his B sample. He is also the 2019 world champion and a three-time European champion (2019, 2024, 2025). These developments have sparked intense debate in the sports community, with some already calling the Enhanced Games the 'Doping Olympics.'

This competition has generated significant buzz in the sports world, as it marks the first event where doping is fully legalized.

The Enhanced Games have stirred considerable controversy across the sports landscape, primarily because they represent the first competition to legalize doping. This has prompted widespread discussions about sports ethics and the potential implications for future events. The reactions to the results—especially the positive doping tests—underscore the growing complexity around issues of fairness and integrity in the sports industry.
