Ukrainian Yevgenia AVERINA shared her experience navigating the American healthcare system. When she contracted barley, the treatment turned out to be much more complicated compared to Ukrainian standards.

In Ukraine, everything is simple: you visit the doctor, they look, take a needle, three minutes - and you're free. In the USA - it's a whole epic

She noted that in the USA, examinations can drag on for weeks, and treatment requires a multitude of documents and waiting for decisions from various doctors.

Delay in Treatment and Surgery Without Anesthesia

After two months of waiting, Yevgenia faced the choice of undergoing surgery to remove the barley without anesthesia that same day or with anesthesia a week later. She chose to proceed with the surgery without anesthesia, which lasted only 20 minutes. AVERINA noted that health insurance is important in the USA to reduce financial costs for treatment.

Yevgenia expressed the opinion that the American healthcare system is very bureaucratic and based on detailed discussion of decisions. She emphasized the importance of preparation for Ukrainian citizens intending to move to the USA, for long treatment cycles and a large volume of documentation.
