International Robotics Contest in South Korea: Top Prize Goes to Ukrainian Schoolgirl

Lviv Students Achieve Standout Results at Robotics Competition

At an international robotics competition held in South Korea, the hardest category ended with a Ukrainian winner: Anna Telehina, a student from Lviv School No. 20, took first place. Telehina competed in Robot Algorithm, a division focused on finding a path and transporting objects. In an earlier round, her robot showed high accuracy as it searched a maze for boxes and carried them to a designated drop-off point. She wrote the robot's path program on the spot, at the competition venue itself.

Robotics contests at this level push students to combine engineering, coding, and problem-solving in real time.

Telehina was coached by Oleksandr Shevchenko, a computer science and robotics teacher. In Robot Algorithm, entrants design algorithms for navigating an obstacle course, processing sensor data, positioning through computer vision, and avoiding collisions. This category is regarded as one of the toughest divisions in the event.

Another young competitor from Lviv made the top five. Oles Letyty, from Lyceum No. 93, placed fourth in the Energy Solution category, which drew nearly 130 participants. Letyty's coach, Yurii Ulianytskyi, also helped prepare him for the contest.

The Lviv City Council supplied photos from the event and voiced its support for the participants. The results achieved by Anna Telehina and Oles Letyty underline the high level of robotics training among Ukrainian students and their ability to compete on the international stage.

The Broader Significance of STEM Success

Successes such as these are more than individual victories. They also highlight Ukraine's growing role in STEM—science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. These results can encourage further development of educational programs in the field, attract investment into Ukrainian technology projects, improve the country's global image, and inspire more young people to build skills in science and technology.

The achievements of young talents in STEM fields extend beyond robotics. Recently, a group of young physicists from Ukraine garnered significant recognition by earning substantial monetary awards for their Olympic medals. This highlights the growing prowess of Ukrainian students in various scientific disciplines, showcasing their potential to excel on the global stage.
