Russian Forces Face Severe Supply Challenges in Southern Ukraine and Crimea
Recent attacks by Ukraine’s defense forces on enemy transport infrastructure have left Russian troops struggling to supply their units in southern Ukraine and occupied Crimea. A particularly critical blow was the severe damage inflicted on the bridge over the North Crimean Canal near Armyansk, which has disrupted key logistics routes for the occupiers. In response, Russian military engineers have built an earthen crossing near Armyansk, but its effectiveness remains questionable.
Additional Logistics Hurdles
Further complications are emerging near Henichesk, where a damaged bridge now allows only one-lane traffic. With virtually no heavy trucks using the Henichesk crossing, the occupiers have deployed a pontoon bridge in the area. Meanwhile, near Chongar, one lane of the bridge remains closed for repairs after sustaining damage, and most cargo traffic has been rerouted to a pontoon crossing. Russian forces have also started constructing additional earthen crossings near Henichesk and Chongar to compensate for the losses.
On June 18-19, railway bridges near Rozdolne and Vladyslavivka in occupied Crimea were struck. These attacks, along with strikes on Russian drone control centers in Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, and Dnipropetrovsk regions, are part of a broader strategy by Ukraine’s defense forces to disrupt enemy logistics. Additionally, a fuel and lubricants depot in Mariupol and a concentration of military equipment near Sievierodonetsk were hit.
Mykhailo Fedorov, deputy head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, stated that Ukrainian drone systems are effectively isolating occupied Crimea.
He emphasized that further logistics disruptions could severely complicate the supply of Russian troops on the peninsula. These developments highlight the growing pressure on Russian command amid active hostilities in Ukraine.
