Next-Generation Ukrainian FPV Drones Strike Targets at 25 km, Even Under Electronic Warfare

Field Tests of Advanced FPV Drones

Ukraine's Ministry of Defense, in partnership with the Brave1 defense innovation cluster, conducted field trials of a new generation of attack FPV drones developed by eight domestic manufacturers. These unmanned systems can cover distances of up to 25 kilometers and successfully engage targets despite various types of electronic warfare countermeasures. During these evaluations, the codification process was streamlined to accelerate the transition from development to frontline deployment. Additionally, the approach to defining operational requirements has been revamped, aiming to boost both the efficiency and speed of delivering cutting-edge technologies to military units.

Surge in Drone Production

Since the start of 2026, the Ukrainian armed forces have received twice as many interceptor drones as they did throughout all of 2025. Contracts for these systems are being managed through the Defense Procurement Agency (DOT). President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has tasked Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov and the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine with dramatically ramping up production of unmanned ground vehicles (UGVs) to 50,000 units this year.

A major milestone in unmanned technology development was the announcement of a joint production venture for Ukrainian drones between Ukraine and Norway. The plan involves manufacturing several thousand mid-strike drones on Norwegian soil, with all output from this collaboration to be delivered to the Defense Forces.

Commenting on the new initiatives, Mykhailo Fedorov stated: 'Our goal is to scale these technologies within the military as quickly as possible and ensure accelerated delivery, so that units receive effective tools immediately after results are confirmed.'

He added: 'For each class of UAV, we are developing a separate testing methodology. We involve all manufacturers whose solutions have not yet been contracted by the state in the trials. If a drone proves its effectiveness in combat conditions, we immediately launch the contracting and scaling process. It was under this model that the new type of FPV was tested.'

The increase in drone production within Ukraine and the joint manufacturing initiative with Norway reflect a surge in military technology efforts, underscoring the country's drive to modernize its armed forces. This development is also expected to bolster Ukraine's defense capabilities amid the current security environment. The focus on rapidly deploying new technologies and validating them in real combat scenarios is likely to enhance the responsiveness and effectiveness of Ukrainian military units.
