Fourteen leading Ukrainian IT companies have created Ukraine's first self-regulating organization in the field of artificial intelligence by signing a corresponding memorandum. The companies will develop innovative products in compliance with the principles of safe AI use, which are proclaimed in the Voluntary Code of Conduct, the Ministry of Digital Transformation reported.

'Ukraine continues to experience a period of self-regulation in AI: companies independently form and implement ethical standards in their products. As a state, we help them through recommendations, then we scale the practices developed by businesses across the market. Through self-regulation, companies can be the first to adapt the best standards to AI products, thus enhancing trust among investors, partners, and clients,' said Oleksandr Borniakov, Deputy Minister of Digital Transformation for European Integration.

Self-Regulation in the Field of Artificial Intelligence

Each company commits to providing a report once a year or more frequently, describing how it integrates ethical principles into the development, implementation, and use of artificial intelligence. The report was developed by the companies in collaboration with the Ministry of Digital Transformation, the Center for Democracy and Rule of Law, and the IT Ukraine Association.

'Launching the self-regulation process and creating a self-regulating organization is a bold step by Ukrainian businesses towards the development of truly ethical use of artificial intelligence. Ukraine once again demonstrates itself as a pioneer in this field. The Center for Democracy and Rule of Law is pleased to initiate this process together with the Ministry of Digital Transformation and the AI Committee. Currently, the CEDAM functions as its secretariat. The establishment of a self-regulating organization and the commencement of the self-regulation process further proves that it is Ukrainian companies that are capable of setting the tone for responsible technology development in the world,' noted CEDAM lawyer in the field of artificial intelligence Olga Petrova.
