Ukrainian Drone Pilots Set a New National Record by Taking Down 61 Enemy Drones in a Single Day

Українські пілоти безпілотників модернізують оборону, відзначившись рекордним знищенням 61 ворожого дрону за один день.

Sirius Battalion Pilots Achieve an Unprecedented Feat

Operators from the Sirius unmanned systems battalion, part of the 118th Separate Mechanized Brigade, have set an all-Ukrainian record for intercepting hostile drones. One crew of interceptor pilots destroyed 61 Russian "Molniya" drones during a single daylight period. This achievement not only doubles their previous best but also raises the bar for all of Ukraine’s Defense Forces, as the previous national record stood at 44 drones.

Key Details of the Interception Operation

The first aerial target was brought down at 4:10 a.m., and the 61st and final one at 9:47 p.m. On average, the enemy lost a drone every 17.5 minutes. The crew worked continuously at their positions for nearly 18 hours. Despite the immense pressure and long duration, the soldiers admitted:

“Constant hunting for new targets and the adrenaline kept us alert until the very last minute,” said representatives of the 118th Separate Mechanized Brigade.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has announced that Ukraine is developing new drones capable of striking targets at distances over 3,000 kilometers. The new "Fire Point" drones have already hit an oil refinery in the Tyumen region at a straight-line distance of 2,070 kilometers, with a flight path of 2,500 kilometers. Plans include drones that can reach distances exceeding 3,000 kilometers.

This record highlights significant progress in the use of unmanned technology in Ukraine’s defense. The success of the Sirius battalion pilots could influence combat strategies and improve efficiency in countering enemy drones. The development of long-range strike drones may also shift the balance in the conflict, giving Ukraine additional capabilities for offensive operations.

The remarkable achievement of the Sirius Battalion pilots not only sets a new standard for drone interceptions but also comes at a time when Ukrainian drones equipped with auto-targeting technology are disrupting Russian supply lines deep within enemy territory. This development could significantly enhance Ukraine's operational capabilities and alter the dynamics of the ongoing conflict.
