In Poland, starting from April 17, 2026, the rules for mandatory medical examinations for employees are changing. The innovations include a transition to electronic certificates and simplification of access to medical documents. This is reported by "inPoland".
Medical examinations in Poland: what will change from April 17
The main innovation is the electronic format of medical conclusions. After the examination, the certificate of fitness for work:
-
will be generated in electronic form;
-
will be registered in the Medical Information System;
-
will automatically appear in the patient's online account (IKP).
This will allow employees and employers to access documents faster and reduce paper bureaucracy.
Electronic certificates IKP: how the new system will work
Despite the implementation of the digital format, paper certificates are not being canceled for now. There is a transitional period of up to six months. During this time:
-
doctors will be able to issue paper documents;
-
this is possible at the request of the employee or due to technical difficulties.
Separately, doctors will be able to provide employees with health recommendations. Importantly, these recommendations:
-
will be available only to the patient in the IKP account;
-
will not be transferred to the employer.
Thus, the new system is intended not only to streamline document flow but also to enhance the protection of personal data.

Previously, medical certificates were mostly issued in paper form, complicating their storage and transfer. The new rules are aimed at digitizing processes and bringing them closer to modern standards in healthcare.
