In Poland, the deadline for Ukrainian doctors and dentists working under a simplified procedure to take the language exam has been extended. The new deadline is set to May 2027 to prevent some medical professionals from losing their jobs. This is reported by inPoland.

Why the deadline for Ukrainian medical professionals has been extended

The decision was supported by the deputies of the Polish parliament who introduced the relevant changes to the legislation. It concerns specialists who took advantage of the simplified employment procedure after the beginning of the full-scale war.

This procedure allowed them to:

At the same time, the requirement to confirm knowledge of Polish at a level not lower than B1 remained.

What will change for Ukrainian doctors in Poland in 2026

Previously, obtaining a language certificate had to be done by May 1, 2026. Now this deadline has been extended by another year - to May 2027.

Reasons for this decision include:

  • limited number of accredited centers;
  • high demand for taking the exam;
  • a significant number of doctors did not manage to complete the certification.

In the parliament, it is noted that many Ukrainian medical professionals are already working in Polish hospitals, so the postponement will help avoid a staff shortage.

The relevant commission emphasized that these changes aim to stabilize the medical system's work and maintain the necessary personnel levels.

It should be reminded that in Lviv, doctors from the Children's Hospital of Saint Nicholas successfully performed surgery on a two-year-old girl named Sofia, removing a lithium battery that had been in her esophagus for three months.
