Due to a sharp drop in temperature, electricity consumption in Ukraine has increased by more than 20% compared to the beginning of October. As reported by the head of Ukrenergo, Vitaliy Zayichenko, during a telethon, heating will start being supplied to Ukrainian homes within the next ten days, as reported by RBC Ukraine. The primary factor for the load on the grid was the widespread use of electric heaters and air conditioners by the population for heating homes.
Zayichenko emphasized that domestic consumers, who are the largest consumers of electricity in the country, critically affect the balance. To help the energy system, he proposed several simple steps:
-
Avoid turning on powerful devices during peak load hours.
-
Refrain from using several energy-intensive devices simultaneously.
-
Replace inefficient incandescent bulbs with modern ones.
«Not turning on powerful devices during peak load hours, refraining from using multiple energy-intensive devices simultaneously, and replacing inefficient bulbs can significantly help the energy system», - stated Vitaliy Zayichenko.
According to Ukrenergo's forecast, full-scale heat supply should start across Ukraine in the coming days. This is expected to positively impact the load, as the need for intensive electric heating will significantly decrease. Recall that on October 8, the Cabinet of Ministers approved a winter preparation plan that includes the protection of energy facilities and the operation of crisis headquarters to prevent blackouts.
Earlier we reported that the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine updated the dates for the heating and inter-heating periods for the upcoming winter. The heating season of 2025-2026 will begin on November 1, 2025, and end on March 31, 2026.
