Ukraine's Postal Service Overhauls Its Vehicle Fleet
Ukraine's national postal operator, Ukrposhta, has sold off 716 units of obsolete equipment through the Prozorro.Sale auction platform. The vehicles sold had an average physical wear and tear of 96%, with each having logged roughly 470,000 kilometers on average. The auction featured vehicles from the Soviet and post-Soviet eras, including a 1979 GAZ-52 from the Poltava region and a Volvo FH12 truck that had traveled nearly 2.9 million kilometers. This sale is part of a broader modernization effort for the state-owned company.
Fleet Renewal and Transparency Commitments
Under the leadership of General Director Ihor Smilianskyi, the average age of Ukrposhta's vehicle fleet has been reduced from 18 years to just 5-6 years. This significant renewal of the company's technical assets is expected to improve service efficiency. Ukrposhta currently serves approximately 1.9 million pensioners across the country.
In the process of disposing of this decommissioned transport, Ukrposhta adheres to strict transparency principles. As Ihor Smilianskyi noted, the company is not permitted to give away written-off property for free. It must be sold exclusively through open auctions, a practice that prevents potential questions from law enforcement and anti-corruption activists. Smilianskyi emphasized that transparency and openness are key operating principles for the company.
"Transparency and openness are key principles in the company's activities."

Furthermore, the sale of retail products in Ukrposhta branches generates over one billion hryvnias in annual revenue, underscoring the company's financial stability and market activity.
The fleet renewal marks a crucial step in Ukrposhta's modernization, which should positively impact service quality for all customers, especially pensioners. The transparent auction process for selling old equipment also demonstrates the company's commitment to anti-corruption norms. This approach is likely to bolster public trust in Ukrposhta and strengthen its position in the service market.
