High Demand for Automated Ticket Repurchase Service
Ukraine's state railway company, Ukrzaliznytsia, has revealed significant user interest in its automated ticket search and purchase service. In response to an inquiry from Ekonomichna Pravda, the company disclosed that nearly 150,000 auto-purchase requests have been submitted since the start of 2026. Of these, approximately 65% were successful, resulting in about 92,000 tickets being secured automatically. This service is particularly useful in a market where popular routes sell out quickly.
How the Service Functions
The official Ukrzaliznytsia app features two key functions: ticket monitoring and automatic repurchase. To use the auto-purchase option, users must log in via the government's Diia.Pidpis (Diia.Sign) system, enter details for up to four passengers, and pre-pay for the tickets. Requests are processed on a first-come, first-served basis, making user speed a critical factor.
Seats become available for auto-purchase when tickets are returned or when reservations for priority groups—such as military personnel or individuals with disabilities—are released. If the monitoring period expires or a ticket does not become available, funds are automatically refunded to the user's card. Ukrzaliznytsia continues to refine its digital services to better meet passenger needs.
The growing popularity of this automated feature highlights passengers' increasing reliance on digital tools to simplify ticket buying. It reflects a broader trend toward the adoption of electronic services in Ukraine's transport sector. Given the service's success rate, Ukrzaliznytsia is likely to keep developing and implementing new technologies to enhance customer experience.
