Ukrzaliznytsia's 2026 Travel Concession Program
Ukraine's state railway operator, Ukrzaliznytsia, will maintain its comprehensive system of travel concessions in 2026, offering permanent and seasonal discounts as well as free journeys for eligible citizens. This program, governed by the current Transportation Rules, is designed to ensure affordable rail transport for those who need it most. The system is a key part of the country's social support framework, especially during a period of ongoing economic challenges.
To obtain a concession, passengers must present the original, valid identification document confirming their eligibility. Tickets can be purchased at railway ticket offices or via the official Ukrzaliznytsia app. Upon boarding, the original document must be shown for inspection; failure to present it will result in the passenger being considered ticketless and liable to pay the full fare plus a fine. While some discounts are available year-round, seasonal concessions are valid from October 1 to May 15.
Permanent and Seasonal Concessions
Key permanent discounts include:
- Children aged 6 to 14 receive a 25% discount on adult fares for travel within Ukraine.
- Students and pupils are entitled to a stable 50% discount on travel in platskart (3rd class), coupe (2nd class), and 2nd & 3rd class carriages across all train categories.
- Combat veterans (UCD) are eligible for one free round trip every two years, or a single annual trip with a 50% discount.
- Families of service members who died in the line of duty receive a permanent 50% discount on all travel within Ukraine.
Seasonal concessions, active from October through May, provide additional support:
- A 50% discount is available for persons with war-related disabilities of groups I, II, and III.
- Persons with a Group I disability and children with disabilities, along with their accompanying persons, are also eligible for this 50% discount.
- Victims of Nazi persecution and war veterans (groups I–II) are entitled to one free trip per year.
- Persons with a Group III disability can make one free trip every two years.
Through this structure, Ukrzaliznytsia continues its active support for various citizen groups, ensuring transport accessibility and helping them save on travel costs.
Amidst the socio-economic challenges facing the country, Ukrzaliznytsia's concession system is a vital component of social policy. It promotes mobility for vulnerable populations, including combat veterans, persons with disabilities, and their families. Continuing this policy can positively impact the standard of living for these groups and facilitate their access to essential social services and events.
