More Carriages for Traveling with Children
Starting June 28, Ukrainian Railways (Ukrzaliznytsia) will increase the number of child-friendly train carriages from 13 to 16. This upgrade, made possible through a partnership with Visa, involved modernizing six carriages over three months of joint effort. These carriages, which receive the highest passenger approval ratings, are designed for families with children—primarily toddlers—and come equipped with special comfort features.
Specifically, the new child-friendly carriages include:
- changing tables,
- bottle warmers,
- playpens for sleeping and playing,
- children's bedding,
- busy boards,
- coloring books,
- board games,
- evening audio fairy tales,
- air conditioning,
- special kids' meals.
Additionally, under the summer schedule taking effect on June 28, the Bessarabia train running between Kyiv and Chișinău will operate daily.
Only passengers traveling with children can book these carriages. New routes featuring child-friendly carriages include:
- No. 1/2 Yednist (Unity) Kharkiv – Ivano-Frankivsk,
- No. 15/16 Les Kurbas Kharkiv – Yasiña,
- No. 17/18 Skovoroda Kharkiv – Uzhhorod,
- No. 26/25 Odesa – Yasiña,
- No. 41/42 Dnipro – Truskavets,
- No. 81/82 Sakura Kyiv – Uzhhorod,
- No. 95/96 Hutsulshchyna Kyiv – Rakhiv,
- No. 351/352 Kyiv – Chișinău,
- No. 93/94 Kharkiv – Chełm,
- No. 123/124 Kharkiv – Chernivtsi,
- No. 353/354 Bessarabia Kyiv – Chișinău.
Test runs for two additional modernized carriages have been completed, and the 16th child-friendly carriage is expected to arrive from the factory next week. These efforts aim to ensure comfortable and safe journeys for families with children, a key priority for Ukrainian Railways.
The increase in child-friendly carriages reflects Ukrainian Railways' commitment to tailoring services to families with children, which could boost the popularity of rail travel among this passenger group.
The partnership with Visa also highlights the importance of public-private collaboration in improving transport services.
