On February 14, the Administrative Court of Kyiv canceled its decision that prohibited Uliana Suprun from performing the duties of the Minister of Health. The Cabinet of Ministers legalized her right to do so in its decision, explained Judge Bohdan Sanin.
The court suspended Suprun on February 5 until the case regarding her dual citizenship was resolved. The lawsuit was filed by Igor Mosiychuk, a deputy from the Radical Party. 'In 2015, Suprun received Ukrainian citizenship. At the same time, she remains a citizen of the USA. Ukraine has a single citizenship', the court's statement said. The first hearing took place on February 15. Judge Serhiy Karakashyan announced his recusal.
It should be noted that previouslythe court prohibited Uliana Suprun from performing the duties of the head of the Ministry of Health
— No new acting minister will be sought a few months before the elections, says political scientist Petro Oleshchuk
— Radicals gained electoral points in the eyes of part of society that opposes the healthcare reform. They are made heroes who fight for the health of ordinary people. Through the lawsuit, they wanted to gain publicity before the elections. Suspending Suprun is not a goal, but a means to get into the center of the information field. The great resonance, support from activists, the president, and the government allowed us to clearly understand that Suprun will not be suspended for long. Now everything has fallen into place.
Uliana Suprun's appointment to the ministerial position could have simplified her activities. She could not have been removed from her duties through the court. However, the current parliament will not gather the necessary number of votes. Suprun may become a full minister after the new Verkhovna Rada is elected on October 27.
