National Security Adviser Calls with E3 and NB8 Countries

On February 10, Ukraine's Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council, Rustem Umerov, held separate phone calls with the national security advisers of the E3 and NB8 country groups. The primary goal was to discuss the ongoing negotiation process and the crucial issue of security guarantees for Ukraine. These discussions are part of a broader diplomatic push to solidify international support for Ukraine's sovereignty and post-war security architecture.

In the first call, Umerov coordinated with representatives of the E3 nations, which consist of:

  • France
  • Germany
  • The United Kingdom

A second call involved consultations with advisers from the NB8 countries, a Nordic-Baltic cooperation format that includes:

  • Denmark
  • Lithuania
  • Latvia
  • Estonia
  • Sweden
  • Norway
  • Finland
  • Iceland

During both conversations, the participants aligned their positions on the diplomatic track and negotiation framework. They also underscored the critical importance of establishing effective, long-term security guarantees for Ukraine.

'We are moving together toward a just and lasting peace for Ukraine,' emphasized Rustem Umerov.

In related diplomatic developments, U.S. Ambassador to NATO, Matthew V. Witek, has refuted suggestions that new deadlines have been set for ending the war in Ukraine, indicating that diplomatic efforts in this sphere are ongoing and complex.

These calls signal an intensification of international negotiations aimed at ensuring Ukraine's security and preparing for future high-level meetings. The involvement of both the major Western European powers of the E3 and the frontline Nordic-Baltic states of the NB8 highlights broad-based European support for Ukraine's pursuit of peace and the collective nature of security efforts. The next steps in this diplomatic process are likely to have significant implications for the future stability of the region.
