Ukraine's U19 national football team, coached by Dmytro Mykhailenko, now knows its match schedule for the group stage of the 2026 UEFA European Under-19 Championship. The squad secured its spot in the final tournament by topping its qualifying group with seven points from three games.
Group Opponents and Fixture List
In their group, Ukraine will face the following national teams:
- Croatia
- Serbia
- Italy
The opening match is set for June 29 at 10:00 PM, with Ukraine taking on Croatia. The second game, against Serbia, is scheduled for July 2 at 8:00 PM, while the final group-stage encounter versus Italy will kick off on July 5 at 6:00 PM.
The final phase of the U19 European Championship will be held in Wales from June 28 to July 11. Eight teams, divided into two groups of four, will compete. The top two sides from each group advance to the semifinals. Notably, this tournament also serves as a qualifier for the 2027 FIFA U-20 World Cup, which will be co-hosted by Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan.
Ukraine's opponents bring considerable youth-level experience. Italy has won the European Championship twice in this age group and finished as runners-up three times. Serbia claimed the U19 Euro title in 2013, defeating France in the final, while Croatia's best result at youth Euros is a bronze medal. Ukraine's U19 side, meanwhile, is the reigning semifinalist from Euro 2024, where they lost 1-0 to France.
By competing in the European Championship, Ukraine's U19 team has a chance not only to showcase its progress on the international stage but also to earn a spot at the U20 World Cup.
The group is expected to be highly competitive, as all opponents have substantial experience in such tournaments. A strong performance in the group stage could prove crucial for the development of these young Ukrainian players and boost their confidence in future international competitions.
As Ukraine's U19 football team prepares for its upcoming matches in the European Championship, the nation's youth athletes are also making headlines in other sports. Recently, the U18 hockey team achieved a solid victory against Slovenia in their World Championship opener, highlighting the growing talent within Ukrainian sports. This success in hockey complements the football squad's ambitions and reflects the overall development of youth sports in Ukraine.
