Mandatory Military Registration Now Required for Males Born in 2009

З обов'язковою військовою реєстрацією тепер повинні ознайомитися всі хлопці, які з'явилися на світ у 2009 році.

Military Registration Process for Young Men in 2026

Starting January 1, 2026, all males who turn 17 that year must register as conscripts by July 31, 2026. This requirement is mandatory, but the Lviv Regional Territorial Center for Recruitment and Social Support clarifies that

“registration does not mean being called up for military service.”
Eligible individuals can complete the process either through the Reserve+ mobile app or in person at local Territorial Centers for Recruitment and Social Support (TCCs).

Those visiting a TCC in person must bring the following documents:

  • passport,
  • tax identification number,
  • birth certificate,
  • a 35x45 mm photo,
  • educational certificates.

Notably, no medical examination (military medical commission) is required at this stage of registration.

Changes to Mobilization Legislation

Meanwhile, David Arakhamia, head of the 'Servant of the People' faction and a member of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on National Security, Defense, and Intelligence, stated that updates to Ukraine's mobilization laws are nearly complete. However, Mykhailo Tsymbaliuk, a People's Deputy from the 'Batkivshchyna' faction and a lieutenant general of police, argued that

“automatically shifting unpopular mobilization measures from TCCs to the Ministry of Internal Affairs will not solve existing problems.”

Solomiia Bobrovska, a member of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on National Security and Defense from the 'Holos' faction, also warned that

“the parliamentary review of the new mobilization bill will spark a political uproar.”
This underscores that the issues of mobilization and military registration remain highly relevant and hotly debated in society.

Therefore, young men born in 2009 must be prepared to meet these new registration requirements and stay informed about ongoing legislative changes.

Registering for military service is a critical step in preparing for potential mobilization, highlighting the importance of military readiness in Ukraine. Given the intense parliamentary debates over new legislative proposals, this process could become a focal point of public discussion and challenges. It is essential for young people to understand their rights and obligations in this context and to actively monitor legislative developments that may affect their lives.

As the military registration process evolves, it is essential for young conscripts to stay updated on the latest developments. For instance, new mobilization regulations set to take effect in April will introduce significant changes that could impact the registration and conscription landscape in Ukraine. Understanding these updates can help individuals navigate their obligations more effectively.
