Уряд ухвалив рішення щодо передачі значного літієвого родовища інвесторам: хто отримає права на розробку.

Transfer of lithium extraction rights in Ukraine

On January 8, 2023, a Ukrainian government commission made a decision to transfer the right to extract lithium to a group of investors, which includes billionaire Ronald Lauder and the company TechMet. This agreement still needs to be officially approved by the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine. The consortium received the right to develop the lithium deposit 'Dobra', located in the Kirovohrad region.

The company TechMet is partially owned by the U.S. government investment agency. This agreement is an important step for the development of lithium infrastructure in Ukraine, considering the growing global demand for lithium, especially in the production of electric vehicles and batteries. The minimum investment required to participate in the tender was $179 million.

Economic prospects and investments

Experts indicate that the process from discovering a deposit to extraction usually takes about 15 years. Therefore, the implementation of this project could be an important stage in the development of the Ukrainian economy and attracting foreign investments.

This agreement may have strategic significance for Ukraine in the context of the global transformation of the energy sector, as lithium is a key component in the production of batteries for electric vehicles. Given the increasing reliance on renewable energy sources, it is important for Ukraine to integrate into global supply chains and develop new technologies. Attracting foreign investments and technologies can contribute not only to economic growth but also to the energy independence of the country.
