Government Decree on Land Restoration
The Ukrainian government has approved a decree designed to accelerate the process of returning land to safe use, particularly areas potentially contaminated with explosive ordnance (EO). The new regulations require local authorities to verify the current use of such plots and to submit the collected data to the Humanitarian Demining Center and the Mine Action Center. This move addresses a critical need for safety and economic recovery in conflict-affected regions.
New Requirements and Their Consequences
Under the new rules, if a landowner or tenant uses a plot for purposes other than its designated use, their tax benefits will be revoked. Based on the information provided by local authorities, the relevant centers will then decide whether to conduct a non-technical survey. This survey aims to confirm or disprove the presence of contamination on the land.
This decree represents a crucial step in restoring safety to territories impacted by conflict.
Land contaminated with explosive remnants of war poses a severe threat to public life and health. The implementation of these new rules also establishes a foundation for more effective land management and promotes the rehabilitation of these areas for future productive use.
