Housing hosts for displaced people get extended utility compensation from Ukraine's government

Уряд України продовжує фінансову підтримку власників житла для переселенців, запроваджуючи нові компенсації за комунальні послуги.

Utility aid period expanded for those sheltering evacuees

Ukraine’s government has increased the duration of temporary utility compensation for people who house internally displaced persons (IDPs) free of charge—from two months to three. The change was formalized in Cabinet Resolution No. 715, adopted on June 4, 2026. This relief is designed for homeowners and tenants who provide free accommodation to those forced to flee their homes.

Previously, this assistance was limited to a two-month period. The new rule extends support to three months and also covers cases where hosts lack certain documents while those papers are being restored. The Pension Fund of Ukraine announced the update, noting that once technical implementation is complete, detailed compensation records will appear in users’ online accounts on the Fund’s portal. There, individuals can check:

  • who received compensation;
  • who was denied;
  • how the amount was calculated;
  • what funds were accrued and paid out for specific periods.

This resolution amends earlier Cabinet decisions—No. 333 of March 19, 2022, and No. 616 of May 27, 2025. By lengthening the payout period, the government aims to bolster support for those taking on the responsibility of sheltering displaced people. This step is seen as crucial amid the socioeconomic challenges the country faces, and the extended aid could help improve conditions for IDPs and ease their integration into new communities.

In light of the recent extension of utility compensation for those providing shelter to internally displaced persons, it is essential to understand the broader implications of these changes.
