Investment in School Labs and Learning Spaces
The Ukrainian government is investing 1.2 billion hryvnias to build laboratories and educational spaces in high schools that are adopting the specialized upper-secondary school reform. These funds are earmarked for institutions that are the first to implement the changes, particularly those piloting specialized education in science, technology, and computer science. Pilot high schools will receive up to 10 million hryvnias each, while remote-learning high schools will get 2 million hryvnias to develop effective digital learning environments.
This funding will allow schools to prepare for the launch of a three-year specialized upper-secondary program and create high-quality learning conditions for students.
“We are aligning the education system with labor market demands—specialists with practical knowledge and skills are in high demand in engineering, technology, IT, and natural sciences,” said Yulia Svyrydenko.
Updated Allocation for Classroom Modernization
Additionally, the distribution of funds for upgrading classrooms in basic school (grades 5–9) has been revised based on community proposals. The subsidy is now directed to locations where labs can be set up this year. The decree also confirms that special schools and educational-rehabilitation centers are eligible for funding to renovate their basic school classrooms. The allocation for outfitting learning spaces for the 'Defense of Ukraine' subject has also been updated.
This government decision is part of a large-scale education reform in Ukraine aimed at modernizing curricula and preparing students for the demands of today's job market. Implementing new educational standards requires significant investment, and the allocated funds will help create proper learning conditions, especially in technical and natural sciences. The reform also seeks to ensure equal access to quality education for all students, regardless of where they study.
