Fresh Funding Allocated to Safeguard Kyiv’s Energy Facilities
Ukraine’s government is set to provide an additional 2 billion hryvnias specifically for protecting energy infrastructure in the capital. Nearly 1 billion hryvnias of that sum has already been directed toward priority measures. In a separate move, the Cabinet of Ministers has approved the release of 3 billion hryvnias from the reserve fund to purchase and install 216 block-modular boiler houses.
Pilot Project and National Reserve Initiative
Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko announced that an experimental project is underway to equip Kyiv’s apartment buildings with backup power. This initiative involves procuring and installing batteries, inverters, and generators to keep elevators, engineering systems, and common-area lighting operational during outages.
Furthermore, the Cabinet is pushing to establish a national reserve of autonomous generation units. The reserve will include:
- mobile power stations,
- cogeneration units,
- boiler houses,
- transformers, and other equipment,
aimed at ensuring energy supply stability amid heightened risks.
These steps are part of the government’s broader strategy to strengthen Ukraine’s energy security, especially as threats continue to grow. The additional funding and creation of an autonomous generation reserve are designed not only to stabilize power supply in the capital but also to improve infrastructure for Kyiv residents. The experimental project also reflects the government’s drive to develop innovative solutions for maintaining uninterrupted electricity during emergencies.
As the government intensifies efforts to enhance Kyiv's energy resilience, it's worth noting that a significant investment of $3 billion has been approved for the deployment of over 200 modular boilers. This initiative, aimed at bolstering the heating infrastructure ahead of the winter season, complements the recent funding for energy protection measures.
