'Ukraine’s young people must have every opportunity to realize their potential here, in Ukraine. So that each and every person can choose their own path and become whoever they want to be.' Yulia Svyrydenko, Prime Minister of Ukraine
Starting in September 2026, free meals will be expanded to cover all students from first through eleventh grade. In April 2026, the government also allocated funding for shelter construction in schools and kindergartens, and plans call for building 113 school shelters in 2026 at a cost of nearly 5 billion UAH. These steps highlight the government’s commitment to modernizing education, which is seen as a critical foundation for the country’s youth.
These government actions reflect a push to ensure safe and comfortable learning environments for Ukrainian children and young people amid current challenges. The planned investment also aims to upgrade educational infrastructure, a key part of preparing for future heating seasons and achieving energy independence. Successful implementation of these initiatives could boost the quality of education in Ukraine and help develop the nation’s future workforce.
In addition to the recent funding for energy independence, the Ukrainian government is also prioritizing the modernization of educational facilities. This includes a significant investment of 1.2 billion UAH to equip high schools with advanced laboratories, enhancing the learning experience for students. Such initiatives are essential for fostering a competitive educational environment in Ukraine. For more details on this funding, visit the comprehensive overview of modern lab equipment initiatives.
