Release of capacity and optimization of energy consumption
The government of Ukraine has released 800 MW of capacity after reviewing the lists of critical infrastructure. This decision aims to reduce the duration of power outages. Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko reported that consumers with a capacity of less than 100 kW, as well as facilities with other consumers, have been excluded from the lists of critical infrastructure.
During a meeting with the heads of regional military-civilian administrations, Yulia Svyrydenko noted that the Cabinet of Ministers' decision to review the lists is part of the government's systemic efforts to optimize energy consumption. However, this review did not affect support hospitals, life-support facilities, and enterprises of the defense-industrial complex.
Situation with electricity production
It is worth noting that Ukraine has lost at least 35% of electricity production compared to 2021. Total electricity production has decreased from 156.6 billion kWh to approximately 101.1 billion kWh in 2024. Future plans include expanding the distributed generation network to 60 facilities. Almost 700 units of equipment for heat supply have also been delivered.
This government decision is significant in the context of the energy crisis the country is facing. Reducing capacities subject to disconnection may help alleviate the load on the energy system and improve the situation with electricity supply stability for the population and critical infrastructure. However, given the significant losses in electricity production, Ukraine still needs to take additional measures to restore energy stability and ensure a reliable electricity supply in the future.
