Strategic task of developing decentralized generation
The Ukrainian government has defined the development of decentralized generation as a strategic task aimed at ensuring energy security in wartime conditions. This decision is an important step towards strengthening the country's energy infrastructure, which is currently experiencing difficult times.
State of the energy infrastructure
The Kyiv region has 51 generating facilities with a total capacity of nearly 110 MW. In 2025, 37 facilities with a capacity of over 77 MW were commissioned, indicating the active development of this direction. In addition, donor projects will add new capacities for communities in January-February 2026, contributing to further strengthening of the energy base.
'Decentralized generation is a question of the state's survival in wartime.' — Yuliya Svyrydenko
She emphasized that 'the state will be in constant dialogue with business', which is important for effective implementation of new technologies and improving the energy situation in the country. 'Decentralized generation is a new architecture of Ukraine's energy security,' Svyrydenko added, highlighting the importance of this process for the future of the energy sector.
The development of decentralized generation in Ukraine is an important element of the energy independence strategy, especially in the context of military actions. The increase in the number of generating facilities and the involvement of donor projects reflects the country's ambition not only to maintain but also to expand its energy infrastructure. This can significantly impact the stability of energy supply for the population and businesses, which is critically important under current conditions.
Involvement of the private sector in this process can also contribute to the implementation of new technologies and enhance the efficiency of energy solutions.
