New Logistics Framework for Foreign Volunteers
The Ukrainian government has approved a new logistics framework for foreign volunteers looking to join the country's Defense Forces. Under this system, intermediary companies must pay a fee of 5 million hryvnias to be included in a special registry. Once a company submits its application and required documents, a decision on its inclusion is made within 10 business days, provided it meets all criteria—such as having no sanctions restrictions or ties to the aggressor state.
Service Costs and Responsibilities for Intermediary Firms
The service cost per candidate is set at 300,000 hryvnias, paid in installments. These intermediary companies are also required to arrange the candidate's return to their home country if they fail the military medical examination or decide against signing a contract. The primary goal of this initiative is to fill 30–50% of infantry and assault positions with foreign volunteers.
“The President of Ukraine’s directive on recruiting foreigners is a top priority for the Government. The Defense Forces already have experience with foreign volunteers. We need to scale this up so that 30–50% of infantry and assault roles are filled by foreign volunteers.”
Yulia Svyrydenko, Prime Minister of Ukraine
Companies selected to support candidates will assist with paperwork, insurance, logistics, accommodation, and meals until a contract is signed. This new approach aims to boost the efficiency of bringing foreigners into the ranks of Ukraine's Defense Forces.
The introduction of this new logistics framework for foreign volunteers highlights Ukraine's drive to strengthen its defense capabilities through international support. Amid ongoing Russian aggression, increasing the number of volunteers could significantly enhance the combat readiness of the Defense Forces. It also reflects the government's effort to create a more structured and regulated system, simplifying the integration of foreign military personnel into Ukraine's armed forces.
