Partial Fuel Cost Reimbursement Initiative
To support drivers facing rising fuel prices, the Ukrainian government has introduced a temporary program offering partial compensation for fuel purchases. This initiative will remain active until May 1 of this year. Under the scheme, drivers can receive a cashback of between 5 and 15 percent on their fuel costs, depending on the fuel type.
Program Details and Eligibility
The highest cashback rate of 15% is offered for diesel fuel. Gasoline purchases qualify for a 10% rebate, while autogas (LPG) receives 5%. The monthly compensation is capped at 1000 hryvnias per person, which is roughly equivalent to the cost of 140 liters of gasoline. This program is part of a broader effort to mitigate the economic pressure on citizens during a period of significant inflation. To qualify for the rebate, drivers must refuel only at gas stations that have officially joined the program. Currently, 12 national and local fuel station networks are participating.
- A mandatory requirement is that payment must be made by card at the point of sale, as cash transactions are not eligible for the program.
- The fuel rebate, combined with the National Cashback program, is calculated and credited to a special card after the 20th of the following month.
This measure is designed to ease the financial burden on motorists and support the development of the national fuel market. The government's move reflects its focus on providing targeted economic relief during a time of instability and high energy costs, which could help sustain consumer demand in the fuel sector.
Oversight of the program's implementation will be crucial to ensuring its effectiveness and transparency for all participating drivers.
In addition to the newly launched fuel rebate program, President Zelenskyy's announcement outlines further measures aimed at supporting drivers in this challenging economic climate. This comprehensive approach underscores the government's commitment to alleviating the financial strain caused by soaring fuel prices and ensuring that motorists have the necessary resources during these turbulent times.
