Marking the 10th Anniversary of the Annual Research Conference

The milestone 10th Annual Research Conference brought together central bank representatives from Ukraine and Poland, featuring more than 60 speakers from over 20 countries. Spanning 16 hours, the event included two keynote speeches, five panel discussions, twelve research presentations, and three video messages. This decade-long tradition has grown into a vital forum for sharing insights and expertise.

Highlights from Keynote Addresses and Major Takeaways

Among the distinguished participants were Yuriy Gorodnichenko, a professor at the University of California, Berkeley, and Andriy Pyshnyi, Governor of the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU). In his address, Pyshnyi reflected on the conference's forward-looking perspective:

"Our conference program reveals the debates central banks will face in 2030. For many, these are hypothetical scenarios; for us, they are daily realities. This is why our colleagues view Ukraine not as an object of sympathy, but as a valuable source of knowledge and experience." Andriy Pyshnyi

Pyshnyi also outlined five essential conclusions drawn from the discussions:

  • Building resilience must begin well before challenges arise.
  • Trust is essentially the memory transformed into expectation.
  • The independence of central banks is once again under threat.
  • Innovation expands capabilities but does not eliminate accountability.
  • Ukraine represents not a problem, but a solution.

These points emphasize the critical need for strategic thinking and adaptability amid evolving economic landscapes.

The conference served as a crucial platform to address pressing issues surrounding financial stability and the autonomy of central banks in the face of global challenges. It highlighted the importance of a strategic approach to fostering resilience and embracing innovation as central banks evolve beyond regulators to become influential drivers of economic policy. Such developments have significant implications for the future of Ukraine's financial system and the broader regional economy.

As the conference emphasized the importance of resilience and innovation in central banking, it is essential to explore similar discussions from other key events. The recent gathering hosted by Narodowy Bank Polski also focused on these themes, shedding light on the evolving challenges that central banks face today.
