The leader of the Crimean Tatars, people's deputy Mustafa Dzhemilev is convinced that the water in Crimea should be enough for local residents, but the occupying authorities use the lion's share of water resources for military bases and for the needs of settlers from Russia, who already number over half a million on the peninsula.
Regarding this, the leader of the Crimean Tatars Dzhemilev stated in an interview with Obozrevatel, as reported by the publication INKORR.com
Dzhemilev noted that the irrational use of water resources is the main problem in Crimea.
According to the leader of the Crimean Tatars, Russia is currently actively relocating its citizens for permanent residence in Crimea, which leads to mass construction of housing and infrastructure in the region, requiring additional water supplies.
“According to our estimates, they have already brought about half a million people.
On the stolen territory they are driving in their residents.
This is what this state is like,” - Dzhemilev said.

Moreover, annually, through various tricks, Russia encourages Russians to go on vacation to Crimea, which creates an additional enormous burden and requires the search for additional sources of freshwater in the region.
At the same time, according to Dzhemilev, one should not disregard military bases that consume a lion's share of Crimea's water supplies.
Mustafa Dzhemilev also pointed out another fact that will lead to an ecological disaster in Crimea. Thus, he stated that the occupying authorities are digging artesian wells, and after their active exploitation, when the water runs out, the wells are filled in and new ones are dug.
The leader of the Crimean Tatars emphasized that after the occupation of Crimea by Russia in 2014, Ukraine blocked the North Crimean Canal, the water from which came from the mainland of Ukraine, and it provided more than 80% of the peninsula's freshwater needs.
In conclusion, Dzhemilev noted that as long as Crimea is under Russian occupation, there can be no talk of water supplies from Ukraine, since the population has enough water, and Ukraine will not act as a sponsor of the militarization of Crimea by Russia.
