The Ukrainian labor market is increasingly facing a shortage of staff even in sectors where employers are willing to offer salaries of up to 80,000 UAH per month and additional benefits. Experts believe that the problem is moving beyond individual professions and becoming one of the main challenges for the economy. This is reported by the Ukrainian Association of International Employment Companies.
Salaries up to 80,000 UAH: why employers cannot find workers
The president of the Ukrainian Association of International Employment Companies and head of the NGO «Office of Migration Policy» Vasyl Voskoboynyk states that discussions about attracting labor migrants often boil down to emotions, while the real situation is much more complicated.
In his opinion, in the coming decades, Ukraine is unlikely to become a country of mass labor immigration. If foreign workers are attracted, it will mainly be for specific tasks in those areas where the staff shortage is greatest.
«I don't think we will see significant flows of migrants to Ukraine. If foreign workers come, it will be targeted recruitment for specific economic needs,» noted Voskoboynyk.
Staff shortage in Ukraine: which vacancies remain unfilled
According to the expert, the problem is especially acute in the construction industry. Some companies in Kyiv are already offering specialists between 50,000 and 80,000 UAH per month, as well as the opportunity to receive exemptions from mobilization.
Despite this, employers cannot fill vacancies. This situation indicates that the main problem is no longer the level of wages but rather the lack of people willing to work in certain specialties.
Experts note that the staff shortage may increasingly affect the pace of economic recovery and the implementation of large infrastructure projects. Therefore, the issue of providing enterprises with workers is becoming one of the key challenges for the labor market in the coming years.
It should be reminded that the number of work permits for foreigners in Ukraine has sharply decreased, although the information space increasingly talks about a «wave of migrants».
