Final Tribute to Volodymyr Mudrik
The city of Uzhhorod held a farewell ceremony on April 15, 2026, for fallen Ukrainian defender Volodymyr Mudrik, who had been listed as missing for more than a year and a half. Born on April 5, 1967, in Kostiantynivka, Donetsk region, Mudrik was killed on August 13, 2024, near the village of Blahodatne in the Pokrovsk district of Donetsk Oblast. His disappearance had caused immense anguish for his family and loved ones during the prolonged uncertainty.
Mudrik served as a rifleman in the 3rd Assault Specialized Unit of Military Unit A4862, part of the separate assault regiment "Skelya." The funeral took place at Narodna Square in Uzhhorod, drawing family members, fellow soldiers, local residents, and Mayor Bohdan Andriiv. A commemorative letter from Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, General Oleksandr Syrskyi, was read aloud during the ceremony, marking a poignant moment for all attendees.
Honoring a Hero
Volodymyr Mudrik was laid to rest on the Hill of Glory with full military honors. He is survived by his wife, a son, and two daughters—one of whom is also serving in Ukraine's defense. Every morning at 9 a.m., Ukrainians observe a moment of silence for all those whose lives have been claimed by the Russian-Ukrainian war. Mudrik fought on the Kupiansk and Pokrovsk fronts, as well as in Chasiv Yar, and his bravery and dedication to duty will remain etched in the memory of the Ukrainian people.
