Heatwave Prompts Truck Movement Restrictions at Ukraine-Romania Border

Спека викликала обмеження на рух вантажівок на кордоні України та Румунії.

Temporary Ban on Heavy Goods Traffic at Ukraine-Romania Border Crossings

Due to extreme temperatures, authorities have imposed temporary restrictions on freight vehicles at the Ukraine-Romania border. These measures apply at the Krasnoilsk–Vicovu de Sus and Porubne–Siret checkpoints. According to the State Customs Service, no trucks—including empty ones—will be allowed to exit Ukraine or travel onward through Romania between 12:00 PM and 8:00 PM on June 29, 2026. The restrictions may be adjusted based on changing temperature conditions.

New Routes and Upgraded Border Facilities

Meanwhile, a new route has been opened for tourist buses at the Ukraine-Romania border, responding to a significant surge in passenger traffic during the summer months and increased pressure on crossing points in Chernivtsi region.

In Odesa region, four border checkpoints along the Ukraine-Moldova border have been fully renovated. Near the Reni–Giurgiulești crossing, a modern rest area for drivers has been constructed.

Travelers are urged to take this information into account when planning routes and crossing the state border
customs officials noted.

The truck restrictions at the Romanian border stem from adverse weather conditions, which could disrupt logistics and trade. This measure, along with the introduction of new tourist bus routes, highlights how customs authorities are actively adapting to shifts in both passenger and freight traffic—especially relevant during the peak summer season. Upgrades at Moldova-border crossings are also expected to improve conditions for drivers and help reduce waiting times at the frontier.

In light of the current restrictions on freight vehicles, it's important for travelers to consider alternative transport options. A newly established bus route at the Ukraine-Romania border aims to accommodate the rising number of passengers, ensuring smoother crossings during this peak season. This initiative not only eases pressure on border checkpoints but also highlights the authorities' ongoing efforts to adapt to changing travel dynamics.
